Awards

The Carolyn S. Langley Award in Speech Language Pathology is given to the graduate student who embodies the mind, heart and soul of the Speech Language Pathology program at Saint Mary's College.  The recipient,chosen by academic and clinical faculty, is superior in scholarly achievement, an adaptive and reflective clinician, culturally sensitive, and compassionate to those in need.  

The Madeleva Award is presented annually to the outstanding graduate student selected from the cohort receiving advanced degrees in recognition of scholastic distinction and exceptional achievement.

Master of Nursing Science Award for Academic Excellence is given to a Master of Nursing Science student who has shown consistent exemplary scholastic achievement throughout the program. The student demonstrates excellence in clinical reasoning and judgement, is self-directed and self-reflective and embodies high standards of professional values in the provision of nursing care. This student also models leadership qualities and potential for leadership following graduation.

Master of Social Work Program Outstanding Student Leadership Award is given to the student in the Master of Social Work Program who implements a culture of social, environmental, and economic justice, peacebuilding, equity, and inclusion in social work practice and stands in solidarity with all who suffer, supporting nonviolence and advocacy for action strategies that promote the transformation of unjust structure.  All graduating MSW students are eligible for this award.  

Master of Social Work Program Excellence in Field Award is bestowed upon a graduating Master of Social Work student who has demonstrated exceptional excellence in field education, distinguished by outstanding relationship-building with clients and the consistent application of advanced professional practice skills. This honor recognizes a student who embodies the mission of the Saint Mary’s College MSW Program and brings that mission to life through meaningful and transformative contributions to the field of social work. The recipient exemplifies intellectual rigor, aesthetic appreciation, religious sensibility, and a profound commitment to social responsibility in service to others. In addition, this award celebrates a student who fully embraces and upholds the core values of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW): service, social justice, dignity and worth of each person, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence. All graduating MSW students are eligible for this award.  

Sister Maureen Grady, CSC Spirit of Nursing Award is given to a Master of Nursing Science student who demonstrates consistent personal development of the therapeutic and spiritual dimension of nursing. This student expresses a deep sense of humanitarianism and innate sensitivity to persons and displays compassion and empathy in both therapeutic and professional interactions. Additionally, the student has the ability to skillfully integrate intellectual knowledge with therapeutic communication focused on all aspects in the implementation of patient care. The effective use of therapeutic communication assists with the development of trust and confidence in all interpersonal relationships. Also innate in the Spirit of Nursing award is a deep sense of loyalty and commitment to the ideals of the profession as expressed in its Ethical Code. Sister Maureen Grady CSC was an integral part of the Department of Nursing Science known for her teaching of spirituality, therapeutic communication and TIS methodology.

The Outstanding DNP Project Award recognizes a graduating Doctor of Nursing Practice student whose scholarly project demonstrates exceptional clinical impact, innovation, and leadership in advancing healthcare practice. 

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students recognizes and celebrates nursing students for the above-and-beyond care and compassion shown to patients and their families.
